Peace Pilgrim was an American pacifist, vegetarian and peace activist. She gave up money in 1953, entrusting herself to the goodwill of strangers and set off to walk back and forth USA. She vowed that she would never again settle down until humanity had learned to live in peace. She walked over well over 25,000 miles, owning only what she carried with her, accepting food and shelter when it was offered, but never again touching money. She became a proficient speaker and inspired many. She died in a car accident in 1981.
