Jeff Schmidt is a physicist who wrote Disciplined Minds, a critique of the socialization and training of professionals which was category:Read on the Show. Soon after publication, he was fired from his job of 19 years as an associate editor for Physics Today. This inspired a public campaign involving academics and physicists, hundreds of physicists and puiblic figures such as Noam Chomsky a letter in support of Schmidt, followed up by a successful legal case which saw him reinstated with backpay and compensation - upon which point he immediately resigned.
