This week we feature two serious but fun talks about America, past and present. Its leaders, and its wars, its calls to patriotism, and its true state religion, the creed of the free market - and some of the realities of how that creed is practiced today.

In our first hour, we'll hear from American historian and novelist Gore Vidal, with a talk he originally gave last Memorial day. But since most of our holidays and patriotic songs seem to have to do with war, this talk seemed appropriate for this holiday as well. And in our second hour we're going to hear from Eric Schlosser, author of Fast Food Nation speaking on Reefer Madness : Sex, Drugs, and Cheap Labor in the American Black Market.
